MISSION AND OUTREACH COMMITTEE

MISSION...
To serve Christ in and beyond our Chapel and to share the Good News of Christ with others.

MEMBERSHIP:
Chair:
Secretary
Liaison: Parish Nurse, ex-officio member (voice without vote)
Other members should include those who have an interesting in some form of mission activity. Overall the membership should reflect the diversity of our mission programs, hence it would not be helpful to have all Habitat workers, and no God’s Table workers, but one of each. At least one member should have a heart for evangelism and new-member development.

Tasks include, but are not limited to:

1. Planning and organizing mission activities for our members to be involved with.
2. Inviting the community beyond Chapel to be involved in our mission activities.
3. Supervising the ministry of God’s Table through a sub-committee or board.
4. Maintaining a relationship with our Sister Church.
5. Evaluating new mission opportunities to determine if these opportunities are appropriate for Chapel.
6. Promoting special offerings.
7. Overseeing the Parish Health program.
8. Scheduling the Focus on Ministry programs, determining the theme for the week and the speaker.
9. Developing and maintaining new member packets.
10. Contacting potential new members and inviting them to attend new member meetings.

PHILOSOPHY OF THE MISSION COMMITTEE

1. Our support takes the form of financial and/or hands-on service.
2. We prefer to support organizations, activities and efforts that are close to home, denominational and Christian but not to the exclusion of distant, national and international. We prefer to see, hear and touch the recipients of our support and receive immediate feedback on its effect. Local interests and involvements generally prevail over denominational.
3. We choose to evaluate organizations, activities and efforts before initiating support, and then periodically as a condition of our continued support.
4. We prefer continuing our support of organizations, activities and efforts, once evaluated, while selectively seeking out new support opportunities as additional funds become available.
5. We would rather support fewer organizations, activities and efforts with larger financial commitments rather than support larger numbers of groups with small commitments.
6. We respond to needs. Our concerns for issues of hunger, education, the homeless, the handicapped, prison populations, etc., are intended to be balanced. It has been part of the heritage, history and pride of this ministry to seek this balance.
7. We strive to serve the whole person meeting initially his/her needs for food, warmth and shelter and moving to his/her spiritual needs.
Approved 7.30.1998

LONG RANGE MISSION GOALS
1. Mission is identified and accepted by the congregation as a very high priority of the church as evidenced by the Mission Ministry designated budget (including the Presbytery mission pledge) being a growing percentage of the church’s primary income.
2. One new recipient of our financial support has been identified each year and one new “hands on” service opportunity has been developed each year.
3. Our Sister Church relationship continues to be nurtured and strengthened.
4. Our congregation is progressively more engaged in the work of mission at the Chapel.
5. We grow the Mission Trust Fund as a resource for special mission help we would choose to give above and beyond our regular budget.
Approved 12/5//2006
