PERSONNEL COMMITTEE

MISSION...
To nurture, encourage and care for those God has called to nurture, encourage and care for us.

MEMBERSHIP:
Chair: a member of Session
Secretary
Liaison: Pastor
Other members should include those who understand the importance of confidentiality.

At the installation of a pastor, the congregation pledges to “promise to pay him (her) fairly and provide for his (her) welfare as he (she) works among us; to stand by him (her) in trouble and share his (her) joys.” This vow is the beginning of the Personnel Committee’s list of duties and should apply not only to the pastor, but to all employees.

The duties of the Personnel Committee include, but are not limited to:
1. Encouraging the Session to give annual Cost of Living Adjustments to all church staff members.
2. Standing by staff members in time of trouble, such as providing care and compassion at times of grief or sickness.
3. Sharing in the joys of staff members, including leading the congregation in celebrating significant employment anniversaries (such as 10th anniversary, etc) and recognition of special life-events (such as helping the congregation to celebrate a marriage, birth, etc).
4. Providing a confidential environment for staff members who need care or counseling in job related issues.
5. Assisting the pastor in managing staff issues.
6. Helping the congregation to observe Church Staff Appreciation month (October) or Sunday (the second Sunday in October) in an appropriate fashion.
7. At the end of a staff member’s employment with Chapel, assisting the pastor in the exit interview, and, when appropriate, assist in planning a congregational celebration for work well done.
