COMMUNION BY INTINCTION

1. Arrive at the church office 20 minutes prior to the worship.
2. Enter the Sanctuary during the Prelude. Elder #1 enters first, followed by Elder #2, #3, etc. Entering in order means you will sit in order, thus you will be in proper position for serving Communion later in the service. Take a seat in the reserved area at the front, on the congregation’s right.
3. During the Communion service, your cue to stand and approach the Table is when the pastor says, “These are the gifts of God for the people of God.” (This will come after the Great Prayer of Thanksgiving and the Words of Institution).
4. Odd numbered elders will pick up a bread plate.
5. Even numbered elders will pick up a chalice.
6. Each pair of elders will go to their stations.
7. Elders serving bread may say: “This is the body of Christ, broken for you.”
8. Elders serving the cup may say: “This is the cup of Christ, for you.”
9. When all people have been served, the pastor will say, “Are there others who would like to receive the Sacrament, but who were unable to come forward. If you or your neighbor will raise a hand, the elders will come to you at this time.” When it seems that all have been served, the pastor will say, “Are there any others who wish to be served?” If no one responds, each team (remaining at station) may turn to face each other and serve one another.
10. After elders have been served, the teams may return to the Table and stand.
11. Elders 1 and 2 will serve the pastor.
12. When the pastor has been served, the elders may return to their seats.
